Candidates from across Hood County are hoping to win over voters and have been campaigning for the upcoming election in March. On Feb. 1, a candidate debate was held at Granbury City Hall where candidates for sheriff, constable, precinct 1 commissioner and precinct 3 commissioner, as well as precinct 1 justice of the peace had a chance to let voters know what they stand for and what they would bring to the table.

For 25 years, Rebecca “Becky” Kidd served in the county auditor’s office in some capacity — she served seven of those years in the office of county auditor. But after retiring in December, Kidd is ready to close the county checkbooks and start traveling and fishing with her husband, Gary.

The Wiley Center was packed to capacity as several community members braved the cold for the Hood County Republican Women’s Club candidate forum Jan. 17.

The Hood County Commissioners Court approved the purchase of new apparatuses and radios for the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department, reimbursed Granbury VFD for the purchase of its tanker, and approved the donation of funds to Texas EMS to be used toward the purchase of an ambulance during a regularly scheduled meeting Jan. 9.

The Hood County Commissioners Court voted to appoint Rod Litke to the Hood County Appraisal District Board of Directors during its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, Dec. 12.

The Hood County Commissioners Court allocated the remaining $119,494 in ARPA funds for the purchase of 13 EMS and Volunteer Fire Department generators using a grant match program, during a regularly scheduled meeting Dec. 12.

The Granbury City Council filled Trish Burwell’s Place 4 after a runoff election took place on Dec. 9. The election’s unofficial results show Gary “Skip” Overdier winning the election over Charles Beard with 617 votes or 65.99 percent over Beard’s 318 votes or 31.01 percent as of Dec. 11.

In a 3:2 vote, the Hood County Commissioners Court approved the allocation of ARPA funds totaling $380,000 to the Indian Harbor Volunteer Fire Department for the intended purpose of purchasing a fire rescue boat, during its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

The Hood County Appraisal District has received votes for members of its board of directors for the 2024-25 year.

A hot topic agenda item during a regular meeting of the Hood County Commissioners Court on Tuesday, Nov. 28, resulted in a record number of community speakers and a whopping hour-and-a-half-long controversial discussion.

The Granbury Chamber of Commerce hosted a candidate forum for Charles Beard and Gary “Skip” Overdier, who are currently running for place four on the Granbury City Council, on Nov. 27.

Following an hour-long discussion, the Hood County Commissioners Court approved the allocation of the $5.6 million pandemic-related American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds during its regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 14.
